Normal People star Paul Mescal portrays the film's titular gladiator in the highly-anticipated sequel that released on November 22

Gladiator II is set to have its world premiere at the 72nd Royal Film Performance on Wednesday 13th November, ahead of its UK release just two days later (star Paul Mescal is pictured)
Gladiator II follows Lucius (played by Mescal), the son of Lucilla (portrayed by Nielsen in the 2000 original) as the film's titular gladiator.
In the film's first trailer, the Normal People star stormed the Colisceum, while showing off his toned physique in a bloody battle with the villainous Marcus Acacius (Pescal).
The Last Of Us star plays Roman general Acacius, who trained as a gladiator beneath Crowe's character Maximus, who died at the end of the first Gladiator film.
In an interview about Gladiator II, the 49-year-old actor told Vanity Fair: '[Acacius] learned from the best, so of course this code of honour is ingrained into his training and into his existence. But at the end of the day, he's a different person. And that can't change who he is.
Paramount Pictures and The Film and TV Charity have teamed up to debut director Ridley Scott's upcoming legacy sequel to the 2000 historical-epic on 13 November in London
It comes after the newest trailer for the film saw Paul 's Lucius Verus seek vengeance against Rome in a blood-soaked battle with his captor general Marcus Acacius
The Normal People star stars as enslaved former heir Lucius in Ridley Scott's long-awaited sequel
'Maximus is Maximus, and that can't be replicated. That just makes Acacius capable of different things,' he teased.
Meanwhile, Mescal opened up about his physical transformation for the film, explaining that he trained to look like a warrior– not a 'sex symbol'.
'I just wanted to be big and strong and look like somebody who can cause a bit of damage when s**t hits the fan,' he said. 'I think also, sometimes, one could, in striving for that perfect look, end up looking more like an underwear model than a warrior.
Reacting to the buzz about his new avatar, the 28-year-old Oscar nominee added 'Muscles start to grow, and that can be deemed aesthetic in certain capacities, but there is something about feeling strong in your body that elicits just a different feeling. You carry yourself differently.
'It has an impact on you psychologically in a way that is useful for the film.'
