summer, there has been a variety of events; and with them, an assortment[...]ish album Destiny. She went on tour for the first time in
six years after a bus accident nearly left her paralyzed

quality of music to be enjoyed[...]ger, released his CD titled Dreaming Out Loud. He has many

This summer Hollywood has given movie

Here’s a glance back at some of the biggest
highlights the movie industry has had to offer
this summer.

“Dragonheart” - Director Rob Cohen
created the largest digital ef[...]ng both his facial

well known for. Overall, “Dragonheart” was
a film sure to please fantasy lovers of all ages.

message they'll find this one definitely worth

“Independence Day” - Once in a while a
film gets hyped up so much that[...]into this category. Pushing the opening
date up a day (July 2) , it was the only film of
this magnitude to be released mid-week.
Despite this strange move by 20th Century
Fox, “ID4” hada larger opening than “Jurassic
Park” and “Terminator II: Judgment Day”
combined.

Starring an army of stars including[...]Robert Loggia and Jeff
Goldblum, “Independence Day” was no
disappointment to what long awaited fan[...]tory; and of course destroyed them
while filming. One obvious good point to
“Independence Day” was that this is one of the
few movies that pride’s itself on buildi[...]etter, louder and more
shocking than the previous one.

Sull though, references to Area 51 and alien
ab[...]r Dean Devlin had intended.
Also, “Independence Day” does what almost
every other film does throughout the movie...has
bad puns. The beginning of the filmis weaved
toge[...]made version of
“Godzilla.”

“Phenomenon” - Probably one of the more
clever films of this summer, this giv[...]o
see the movie itself.

“Mission Impossible” - Fans of the original
television series shouldn't[...]ector
originally intended. Tom Cruise spends more
time walking around with a towel around his
waist than[...]Cruise fans plan to go see this
movie twice, then don’t bother. More than 80
percent of the filmis devote[...]film and
make it just plain boring. The remaining time
is spent trying to figure out who and who isn’t[...]ng loop of betrayals and alliances, it
might take one or two attempts at watching the
movie before figuring it out.

“Twister” - Director Jan de Bont created one
of the largest, fastest paced films in the highly
successful action flick, “Speed.” Since that
time he has beenYou” star Helen Hunt
in what theatricalsteasers promised “would
blow you away”, =

Michael Crichton, the writer of the film, has
had his name pop up a lot lately. Recently

one thing the whole idea of the story is totally unbe[...]dly, it was very difficult

heart-pounding sports are played by men,
then you are sadly mistaken. There is another
team on campus that will make you want to
jump up, scream and shout. They are the
ladies[...]eyball team, the “Lady Gau-
chos.”

On August 23, the “Lady Gauchos” had an
exhibition game a[...]first game, the “Lady Gauchos” sailed
to a 15-one
team wins by at least 2 points. The alumni
team made a fervor of plays to finally reach a
victory with a score of 18-16 over the “Lady
Gauchos.”

Seasoned performer JoAnn Yeoman has brought her
qualified talents to the dance depart[...]g name.
“To make it easy, my students just call me JoAnn,” said
Yeoman.

Yeoman began dancing at a[...]mother

started a new program for Native American student[...]ities while following college guidelines. “I've been
around and have done clubs, Indian pageants, para[...]ve American students on the campus together. Over 220
students were called and approximately 25 arrived for the
first meeting. The meeting was h[...]tentatively scheduled to be held on
Tuesday's at 2 p.m., will be conducted in hopes that the
numbers[...]st with information pertaining to Native
American Day held on the 27th of this month.

“A lot of students don’t know anything about Native
Americans except for what t[...]king flyers, recruiting students and letting
them know about the club. Both Damon and Reid are
available[...]o raise money
for the club is the Native American Day and an awards
banquet held at the Phoenix Civic P[...]ons; generally for dancing.

Damon’s other work has included going to high schools
around the valley[...]erm,
plans to get the proverbial ball rolling and let the students
themselves take over in her absence. She has hopes of
getting the students involved in setting[...]ng out with their own newsletter.

Damon says she has always believed in “education by
observation an[...]bout Indian writings and the drawings on
the wall you always hear about is at this club. N.A.S.A. also[...]are 450 tribes across the United

CHICAGO—Tamara Hahn doesn’t have
time to sleep.

Hahn, a 20-year-old juniorat the University
of Illinois at[...]es a full classload,
softball practice and a part-time job at a
sandwich shop

“During the [softball][...]It’s hard to pay attention.”

Weekends are a time to catch up on sleep,
she says, although sometime[...]of college students,
like Hahn, are spending less time snoozing
and more time feeling tired and listless,
according to recent s[...]“Sleep,” scientists
speculate that Americans today are less well-
rested and feel worse than their p[...]sity Medical School. “People prioritize
all the time200 healthy adults living in
the Midwest in the 1930s to those of 1,200
adults of comparable age, gender, area of
resid[...]male
counterparts.

An Elmhurst College study of 82 college
undergraduates found that similar percent[...]half (SI percent) reported sleeping less than
6 1/2 hours per night.

“Students, particularly women[...]n in the sample went
to bed by 11 p.m., more than 20 percent of
men reported staying up past midnight[...]in bed by midnight
and 80 percent by 3 a.m. Only 20 percent of
the women students were in bed by | a[...]g by 10 a.m. on
Saturdays and Sundays, while only 26 percent
of men slept beyond 10 a.m. on weekends.[...], synchronized
sleep cycle.”

Sexton-Radek says one of the most
important habits for a good sleep cycle is to go
to bed and get up at about the same time each
day

“This will give you a consistent rhythm and
will synchronize your biological clocks,” she
adds

Almost all, 77 out of 82 students, reported
needing alarm clocks to wake up.

About 20 percent experienced insomnia at

“It’s difficult,” Lewis admits. “The
one area that I neglect the most is

students think about.

This has been the case with National Hockey League (NHL)
hockey[...]off season, this lack of
coverage continued into one of the
biggest events in hockey.

To my great dismay I had to miss[...]prestigious series was not even
mentioned.

No, I don’t mean not covered. Final scores were not even give[...]omplishment was completely ignored!

As it became time for news out of NHL pre-season training
camps, an[...]nds on an NHL schedule for the
upcoming season, I could not contain my excitement. The first
game the Coy[...]omen for the
upcoming season, I happily laid out $26.50 to view the game seated
amongst the rafters a[...]s jersey.

Several former Edmontonians
approached me and expressed their
excitement al once again livi[...]others, some in Coyotes jerseys
or T-shirts, gave me dirty looks and
refused to meet my eyes.

Where i[...]r the Coyotes lost their
inaugural home ice game 3-1, many of the fans who stayed until the
bitter en[...]es into moving a team, and overall the transition has so
far been a smooth one. In fact, Pro Hockey magazine predicts the
Coyote[...]ction does not seem
surprising or unreasonable to me.

We have something special in the Valley this fa[...]tended the Coyote’s first home ice game already
know this. I plan to cheer our Coyotes on at as many o[...]ular season home games as I can this year.

Maybe you'll catch some of the NHL spirit I am starting to feel
in the air and join me!

and Tracy, a young woman that has had too many abusive relationships.

The story un[...]or that she was only “dancing.” Ben agrees to let
Tracy spend the night and she stays two months. T[...]ndy Messersmith, a visiting director. Messersmith has
worked with the Southwest Shakespeare Company and[...]e
black box theatre PAC-144 at 8:00 and Sunday at 2:00. The show will continue on

The show runs about one and a half hours and there is no intermission.

finally over. It’s now time for all of you trendy kids, you know who you are, to go
to Zia’s and trade in all of the 311 CD’s you bought. Once you've done that, you
can buy back your Alanis Morisette CD's and forget you ever knew that 311 was a

I may seem a little bitter about how popular 311 has gotten in the last few months,

makes a good show.

(Now and Then, Sleepless In Seattle), also make appearances

“That Thing You Do!” provides many laughs and is an

The two hour game saw the Lady Gauchos
(6-0/15-5) defeat SCC (4-3) in four games,
15-4, 7-15, 15-5 and 15-10.

In the pre-game warm-up, the Lady Gau-
chos l[...]er block against the visitors.

With GCC leading 6-0, SCC had enough of
the Lady Gauchos easy scoring and called a
time-out. GCC coach Sheryl Nobley had a big
smile on h[...]as called once again by SCC with
the GCC lead at 9-0.

After the timeout, SCC made more passing
mista[...]had a long volley against SCC to
win the match 15-1.

The second game saw GCC scoring first
against[...]age to
take the lead. The Scottsdale team was up 4-
1 when Nobley decided something was wrong
and cal[...]d nothing would
stop them from winning the game 15-7.

In the start of the third game GCC and SCC
were tied 2-2. Both teams made mistakes in
passing and hitting.

SCC called a timeout after going down, 4-
3. They came out of their timeout and served
an a[...]had roofed
over the net before the setter of SCC could set
the ball

SCC took another timeout with score at 9-
5, but both teams needed the break

to another timeout by SCC with score now at
11-5.

Glendale got some easy points against
SCC and went on to win the third game, 15-5.

The fourth game had SCC scoring the first

and rallied to take a 3-1 lead.

To the editors of The Voice, students,[...]uld be open to all.

In the past weeks there have been a few
incidents that would lead people to believe[...]ce-
based club.

This is a false statement and is one that is
not held by the active members of the
S.T[...]ntry have
contributed much for the rights we have
today as Americans. These were people of
all races and[...]vote.

During my termas presidentofS.T.A.R.S.
Il - BSU, I have tried to lead the club on a
positive path. Yes, there have been times
that I was not right in my thinking for the
club but I hope that my ideals were not one
that would hurt the club and what it stands
for.

What S.T.A.R.S. Il - BSU represents is
students helping others to be t[...]the club in as starting
antiquated biases from a time long past. It
is also irresponsible of this perso[...]on in the club would be
hypocritical.

It saddens me to have to disassociate
myself from a group that has the potential to
achieve great accomplishments.

I have been going to GCC now for about
six years. In all of that time I have enjoyed
the family food service vending tr[...]0 p.m. and
8:30 p.m.

For years, instructors have been gearing
their breaks to that time and it has worked
well for all concerned. Now we hear that
because of some stupid and not very[...]t as
able to sprint that distance and get back in
time for class. It is for this reason that I and
other[...]k to be able to
resume serving the students as it has for
many, many years.

The vending truck could not possible be
dipping into the snack bar revenue, as many
students don’t even know where the snack
bar is and find it too far to go.[...]e though, it comes down
to the bands. These bands want the
popularity, or they wouldn't have attended
a[...]so benefit the
corporate monster, a band who they know
nothing about what they or their music
stands for[...]r what their music
stands for.

Arguing about who has been a fan of a
certain band for longer is pointless. Just
because you heard a band before somebody
else doesn’t mean that you are a bigger fan.

Maybe somebody has been listening to
that bandeven longer than you. What if that
person thinks of you the same way you do
of these other people? That really isn’t fai[...]nd your
article rather confusing. This is because
you throw out the word “trendy” so
much.

You also claim that “311 is not for Edge
listeners.[...]ne who listens to The Edge. For your
information, 20,000 people attended “That
Damn Show,” (5,000[...]za).

Is “trendy” a show that brings together
20,000 people of different races, genders
and ages?[...]and sell tickets for a
reasonable price. It was a day of fun and
music, not a day of “Let’s guess who's
trendy here?”

did. You mention that you “saw them at the

is what is termed as the “me too” procedure

president, has been used in v irtually every

same time discrediting that same idea of his
opponent

technique has become so good that he will

say that he has rejected it after “further

one has been Speaker of the House Newt
Gingrich, but most of the time anyone who

more skillful at selling an idea than Clinton

The third phase of the plan calls forridiculing
the opponents proposal (which Clinton has

Senator Bob Dole has offered a 15 percent
reduction in the income tax rate for all
Americans. In addition to this, he has signed
a pledge not to raise any taxes, and there[...]ted, so he initiated his

because while we get to keep it on one hand,

don’t know about others, but I do not want

accomplishes two things. First, it shows that
he has always had this idea. Second, it shows

follows a few simple rules. Rule one, never
call the Dole proposal anything but a

This technique has served the president

they like, and mean to the ones they don’t.

An immigrant is one200 years ago.

As the presidential election comes to a
close, each candidate has tried to demonstrate
his strong points by airing[...]ining their vote.

For many decades, this country has tried to
tackle illegal immigrants by reinforcing[...]ing discriminated
against. Many other people have been harassed
because of their national origin, or sim[...]s will be a country of diversity.

Discrimination has always existed, and as
far as anyone can determin[...]several
responses from our readers. However,
only one of these supported Krahn’s
narrow point of view.

So, I decided it was time for someone
to take up the banner of those who
di[...]comes successful, that his or her
music no longer hasbeen a hard-core NIN slave for
years and told her she[...]the full experience.

Her response was, “Oh, I don’t like
that Goth/Grunge stuff. I just like
‘Close[...]do fit the “trendy”
mold.

But what disturbs me is how
generalizing Krahn’s comments were.
He s[...]he “hard-
core” fans he defends so viciously. Now,
I don’t know about you, but I don’t think
I'd stick around if I was being assaulted
b[...]out
racial epithets.”

Let’s think about this. Why should

chance to make it so everyone has a
chance to hear the work? Shouldn't

Edge, who would hear the new music?
You and those like you, perhaps, but
who else? If they didn’t bring attention
to new bands, who would? Power 92?

Not likely. They're stuck in the
homogenous pop format. And let's see
you try to convince an easy listening
station to play something by the Butthole
Surfers. I wish you luck.

For better or worse, The Edge has
helped fill a void in radio today. Not as
well as they could, granted for
sometimes they can be repetitive. Bu[...]d saying goes, some are better
than none.

As for me, well, I don’t wear “No
Fear” gear. I don’t drive a truck with
Calvin and Hobbes stickers on it. I
don’t wear ball caps, and the word
“dude” never ent[...]n to
The Edge, some people would already
consider me “trendy.”

Never mind that I listen to other[...], until I heard their music
on The Edge, (whereas you saw them in
some obscure club 2 years ago,) that
makes you more deserving to be called
a fan than me, correct?

Well, I have one piece of advice for
Krahn, and those who think like him:
grow up.

And, until you do, if it makes you feel
better.

Just call me “trendy.”[...]ly
aggressive.

As a journalism major, this makes me
upset because the media are always getting
slamme[...]r something that they
felt their audiences should know

Forexample, Richard Jewell, the former

audiences should know about. Reporters
only report the information they[...]r sources and feel are relevant to
the point they want to get across in their
story.

But whether the information is accurate
or not, most journalists don’t have to

"How much is a credit hour?”

Okay, you ough'ta know what?

Well, that seemed to be the question, or t[...]n campus were asked a very simple
question, “Do you have any idea how much the average cost per credi[...]0 or so for a class.

“I thought it was about $32-$40,” said Mazhar Khan. “I go to ASU so I
neve[...]ange was up in the eighty-dollar range. “I’ve been to so many schools
that I don’t even pay attention any more. I figure I just pay[...]dea about the price
of classes on campus. :

“I don't pay for my own classes since I have a Pell Grant, so I really don’t
know or bother asking,” said Heather Coleman. ;
